The History of Dell as a manufacture of printers

Dell 1320

Dell was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell who envisioned Dell as becoming one of the leading manufacturers of computers and computer accessories of the world. His basic aim when he started was to directly serve Dell’s customers with computers that would satisfy their computing needs. Initially, at the time of inception, Dell was known as PC’s Limited.

History of Dell

Michael Dell started off PC’s Limited when he was a student enrolled at the University of Texas. One year after PC’s Limited came into being, it was renamed as Dell and the same year they developed their first ever computer, which was named Turbo. Turbo was a revolutionary eight-megahertz processor computer and was a trademark in the product category. Dell’s primary objective was to manufacture personal computers that are compatible with IBM.

The unique selling point for Dell since its inception has always been its customer-oriented approach and also its unique allowance of letting its customers customize their computers according to their needs and requirements while ordering. This was not really an expensive provision because every computer was individually assembled anyway. They kept growing with this USP and eventually started making a name for themselves in the computer manufacturers’ market.

The company was building on its numbers and grossed as many as seventy three million dollars in their first year. The company then issued public shares in 1988 for .50 per share.  In 1991, Dell broke through and manufactured their first laptop and in the following years also acquired Compaq. In 2003, Dell expanded its product portfolio and started manufacturing printers, cartridges, toners, and a lot of other computer accessories. Since then, the company has only gone upwards and today rules the market of computer manufacturers.

Entrance into the Printer Market

2003 was the year when Dell introduced their first ever printers in the market. These printers were not just intended to serve businesses but also for the general public. They became an instant hit amongst the masses. Dell has developed their reputation as being versatile and extremely easy to use. They self manufacture their own cartridges and toners.

What Distinguishes Dell?

The coolest thing that differentiates Dell from all other manufacturers is that it allows its customers to customize their product according to their needs and requirements. Not many manufacturers provide this facility and this is why Dell has made its name in the market. If anyone is in need of a computer or any computer accessory, all they need to do is log on to Dell’s website, specify the requirements and Dell will deliver it at the doorstep anywhere in the world.

The Dell 1320 printer is perfectly designed for small businesses and work groups. It is also appropriate for use at home if the volume of printing is high. Priced around three hundred dollars, the Dell 1320 is known for its printing speed and colour details. The Dell 1320 is listed and rated amongst the top printing devices. The print quality is better than a lot of other printers in competition and is a preferred choice for many.

Design

Designed in a very sleek manner, the Dell 1320 is very straightforward and basic and is perfect to be set up in a small office role. The colour also gives it a professional look and adds to the overall essence of the office. The printer is dark gray in colour and is 15.6 inches wide, 14.8 inches tall and 16.6 inches deep. It is extremely lightweight at less than forty pounds and can be easily moved around the work place if required.

The printer is equipped with a control panel that has only two buttons to make it very easy to control and operate. The front panel has a graphical display with LEDs that turn on and off to give an indication of a problem or status of the printer. For example, if the printer’s paper tray is left open by mistake, the icon on the LED display lights up.

The printer has one main paper tray which has the capacity of holding up to two hundred and fifty sheets of regular paper. Four toner cartridges are slotted at the back side of the panel which is on the right hand side of the printer. The printing cartridges for the Dell 1320 are compact, small and very light weight. Every cartridge has a printing capacity of 1000 to 2000 prints. The monthly duty cycle for the Dell 1320 is thirty-five thousand prints, which is very good for any small sized organization.
