Product Labeling: Understanding The Labeling Needs For Various Industries

The wine industry has its preferred label of choice – coated and textured papers.  The reason for this is that wines, especially those sitting in ice buckets, needs to appear both of high-quality and moisture resistant.

Paper is found in all kinds of textures – from nearly smooth to extremely textured. The texture’s strength is dependent upon what print processes are ideal for the chosen material. Despite the fact that paper is used more often than not, films have increasingly been adopted for wine labelling, which has led to additional design opportunities. Wine Labels

Labels For Freezer and Pharmaceutical Products

In the pharmaceutical sector, there are many applications that demand labels, be able to handle special requirements.  One example includes:

Bonding agents that have no-migration properties for labels on liquid-filled LDEP package – This allows labels to hold up against the numerous sterilization processes and low-temperature storage (-80° C).

Labels on small-diameter substrates like syringes, test tubes and vials, need special care. This is especially true if the diameter is less than 15mm. When this occurs, overlapped labelling along with the right glue and face material can ensure there is success.

Products that come from pharmacies must be traceable. Therefore, the labels need to have expiration dates and batch numbers printed on them. It’s also important to have the printability of the face material, which is usually done by thermal transfer.

These companies demand special labelling materials; materials that have undergone extensive assessments like stability tests and migration studies. Thus, it’s important that these companies get the technical support they need for the migration studies.

 Labels For Drinks

When it comes to drink manufacturers, they tend to stick with clear-on-clear labeling options because it usually entails bottles that are made of polyester or transparent glass.  This will generate the no-label appearance, and are ideal because they are resistant to three things:

  • Cool temperatures
  • Humidity
  • Moisture

Paper materials are still very popular for various applications and are resistant to certain conditions.

Now, this part of the drink-labeling entails the following:  Drink bottle labels

  • Sodas
  • Bottled water
  • Beers
  • Spirits
  • Non-alcoholic drinks
  • Flavored alcoholic drinks

Labels For Personal Care

When it comes to labels in the personal care sector of the market, there must be three things:

  • Water-resistant materials
  • Label flexibility for packages that are flexible
  • Oil and chemical-resistance labels

A majority of these things can be covered with polypropylenes (PP) and polyethylene’s (PE). Medical supply labels

 A Look At Roll Labels

Roll labels, found in more than 100 sizes and shapes, can be used for inkjet, indirect thermal and direct thermal printers.  These labels have six different types of materials, have four types of adhesives (is freezer compatible), four finishes and 12 colors.

5 Available Types Of Bonding backing Agents

High-quality bonding agents are important to a label’s performance. It’s not just about a clean design and look; it’s about a label staying in place to show off that clean look and design.  Therefore, you must pick the right bonding glue. Now, there are five kinds of bonding agents that can be chosen from:

  • Permanent
  • Removable
  • Semi-permanent
  • Special adhesives
  • Washable

Each one has a number of bonding agents with various properties and looks that will vary based on the end-use necessities.

A Look At Vinyl-Backing Materials

Both PP and PE backing materials have been created specifically for use with applications that need strength and clarity.

Film backings give an even adhesive layer for constant contact with face material, whereas the transparent face materials give the label excellent transparency and worthwhile characteristics for high volume, high-speed products. These decrease the possibility of breaks, and since they’re much thinner than what you see with paper liners, each roll can have more labels. This decreases the necessity of roll changes, stock space, transport, packaging and waste.

A Look At Kraft Paper-Backing Materials

It’s important to note that Kraft backings have just one side that is coated. These tend to be much more rigid than high-density glassine backings with similar weight. This type of backing is found in A4 and sheet rock applications since they give a suitable backing that smoothly goes into copier, inkjet and laser printers. The backing is also good when the application needs a flat-sheet conversion.
