The Different Uses for Multi Labels per Page
In industry, particularly in say a warehouse, you'll notice in the stationery department pages and pages of labels, each with varying amount of labels per page. Often these are on an A4 sized sheet and one particular sheet can have 4, 12 or 27 labels per A4 sheet. There are even huge labels that cover a whole A4 sheet and are used primarily for sticking on large items like mainframe computer cabinets, car chassis, the back of widescreen and huge modern television sets but mostly seen on crates carrying freight across the sea. The label per sheet here can number just the one and the size of this single label is usually 199.6 mm x 289.1 mm.
Large freight containers often are so big they can carry a large vehicle inside. A single label per A4 sheet is used as this is the only size that serves a purpose large enough. Large labels like this are used on large freight containers because it makes it easier for dock workers to scan or strobe a bar code or QR code that is often printed on the label. Large postal items also make use of A4 sheets carrying such items as musical instruments, amplifiers, single beds, coffee tables and medium sized furniture items.
Anywhere from 8 to 27 labels per sheet tend to used for addressing labels. Go into any large warehouse where items are picked, packed and then labeled and you'll see that every box or product then needs labeling up. Address labels usually derive from sheets where 8 to 27 labels per sheet are needed.
There are also A4 sheets where more than 20 labels per page feature. Usually it is 27 per sheet. This is spaced out with three labels across and nine labels down. These can and do get often used for address labels on smaller items like CDs or even just letters but often where there are more than 27 labels (occasionally over 100) you will find these labels being used for marking up part numbers on small items like resistors, tiny batteries used in watches, and any other part small enough to fit happily in the palm of your hand.
Where you see a label 3 x 9 on an A4 page, the measurement would be 63.5 mm x 29.6 mm per label. Another common A4 sheet is the 3 labels x 4 sheet for addressing medium sized consignments.
